WHAT CAUSED THE CIVIL WAR: Igbo envy and hatred have been common historical phenomena in Nigeria. The civil war of the 60s was caused by other tribes in Nigeria becoming paranoid about the rapid upwardly movement of the ‘bush tribe' of the lower Niger that caught up swiftly and blazed ahead of them in every sphere of national endeavour.

On assumption of office on May 29, 2023, the governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, set a 9- point agenda for his administration. Top on the blueprint/template was the problem of insecurity and the attendant exacerbating poverty among the citizens of the state. He acknowledged the efforts of his boss and former governor of Sokoto State His Excellency Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to restore law and order with a promise to consolidate the gains therefrom. In fact, the governor began the first 100 days in office with the inauguration of multimillion projects in the Security, Transportation, Health, and Road Networking sectors, expressing greater optimism about improved security in the state from May 2023 to November 2023 . He said: “Security is important and necessary for meaningful development and growth of the society. My administration will give security uppermost preference and priority.” Ahmed Aliyu, aside recognising the strategic place of security in the promotion of economic growth, development and prosperity, was not under any illusion about the Herculean nature of the task ahead. Thus, he promised to collaborate with other security forces along with the vigilante groups and hunters to up the ante in the war against bandits that has continued to do Colossal damage to the state.

Liberia and Sierra Leone have a common historical legacy and often tend to imitate each other in war and peace. But events in the last two weeks suggest that while Liberia may be turning a new, refreshing page, Sierra Leone remains trapped in its troubled past.

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Nigeria's 10th National Assembly interred the remains of Democracy in a shallow grave dug at the desecrated floor of the House, when President Tinubu presented the national budget proposal for 2024 fiscal year to a joint session of the parliaments.

It is not every marriage that is founded on love, not every married person who married for love. Don’t tell me you don’t know a few people who took their vows based on what they could see rather than what they felt. They stood, all dressed up in front of their Pastor, Bishop or Reverend Father and repeated the right lines rightly after the clergy, in front of men, not because they were ecstatically, deliriously in love but because they had chosen who they chose at that particular point in time for a set of particular reasons.

In any democratic society, adherence to legislative compliance is crucial for a smooth and efficient functioning of the government. Democracy thrives on the idea of complementarity among the three arms of government for effective delivery of good governance.

The world woke up on October 7, 2023, to the news of a terrorist invasion of Israel. The terrorists were Hamas militants who operated from Gaza. Before the night was over, more than 4,000 rockets had been fired into Israel: over 1,400 Israelis were killed and over 200 others kidnapped and taken hostage in Gaza. Hamas was also the governing authority of Gaza.

OF LEADERS AND CHARLATANS:

The presidency is probably the most influential institution on earth today. In most countries, a president would get away with nigh everything. This is why more attention is paid to the number one man in the land. This is why selecting a president is the most important business in a country’s life. And this explains why stringent rules - and indeed, forensic devices are daily deployed to ensure that misfits are kept far away from that gilded seat.

The outcry over the Nigerian Navy yacht, otherwise known as the presidential yacht, has characteristically died down but I am not certain the matter has been conclusively resolved. Like most things Nigerian, it has been swept under the carpet. You only need to know how many hurricanes have been swept under the Nigerian carpet, and how many more are still being swept underneath it. Nigeria’s carpet is like the ubiquitous “Molue” which always has space for additional passengers, even when it is obvious to all that it is already bursting at the seams!

On November 30, 2023, he would be 72 years. Family, Friends and well-wishers would congregate at the ancient city of Ibadan to reminisce about his eventful life and the lessons thereof.
