By Princess Simon (Bureau Chief North Central)
The new Registrar/Chief Executive of the, National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, on Monday, July 26, 2021, assumed office with a promise to reposition the examination body towards attaining its full potentials.
Wushishi said his tenure as the Registrar will focus on attaining the core objectives of the ‘credible and internationally acclaimed examination body’.
He officially took over the affairs of the Council from, Mr. Ebikibina John Ogborodi, who has been acting Registrar since the demise of the former Registrar/Chief Executive, late Professor Godswill Obioma.
Wushishi told members of staff who were on hand to welcome him at the Council’s Headquarters, along Minna-Bida road, “My desire is to make NECO surpass international standards which other international examination bodies will look up to”.
Against the fears of promoting tribal and religious bias, however, Professor Wushishi, according to a statement signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division, Mr. Azeez Sani said, “I am not here to be biased in any way, rather I am here as a Nigerian, I will work with everybody to take NECO to the desired heights”.
The new Registrar/Chief Executive acknowledged that there are challenges that needed to be tackled to make NECO better than it is today, however, assured that the challenges are surmountable with the support of all staff.
Part of the strategies to ensure maximum results, Professor Wushishi explained, is to ensure that staff who distinguished themselves are rewarded and their privileges and entitlements paid as at when due.
While warning that the management under his leadership would not hesitate to punish any staff found wanting in the discharge of his/her duties, the new Registrar solicited for the support and cooperation of the management and staff to enable him to succeed.
Thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for deeming him fit to be appointed as NECO Registrar, Wushishi also pledged to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education and NECO's Governing Board.
The Acting Registrar of NECO, Mr. Ebikibina John Ogborodi, had earlier briefed the new Registrar on progress made so far in the ongoing 2021 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) as well as other core mandates of the Council. NNL.
