Never in my life did I envisage getting into the forefront of partisan politics. Not in the current Nigerian political reality. Little did I contemplate the untoward verbal irony whereby someone does the direct opposite of what he swore not to do (impulsively for the greater good). A typical example of this is seen in the gospel of St. John 7:8–10, where the Lord told his disciples that He will not go up to Jerusalem for the Jewish feast of the tabernacle, but afterwards, he found himself attending the same event albeit secretly.

The butterfly thinks himself a bird: It was a haunting scene in Beijing, China the other week when President Bola Tinubu met his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. Such meetings are usually stuff for history: Africa’s great and Asia's great meeting minds to impact the world on a monumental scale.

Nothing puts in more stark relief the squandering of Nigeria's fortunes than the state of development of other oil-endowed climes like the Gulf states vis-a-vis the utter despoilation of our oil-rich Niger Delta. Why couldn't the Niger Delta be developed like Dubai, which in the space of two decades, and before our very eyes, grew from an unremarkable fishing town to the Middle East’s business, tourism and culture epicentre?

Why "Injury” and not Ajuri? The creme-de-la-creme of the country’s media had gathered in Ibadan, the Pace Setter state and capital of Oyo State, on Friday, 7 June, 2024 for a two-day facility tour of the signature projects of the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as part of the activities marking the first year of his second, and final, term of office. Veterans of the media, the young and the-not-so young, traditional as well as new media, print and electronics - the assemblage was from all the country’s geo-political zones.

Just as they say that social media neither sleep nor slumber, history also never forgets! The saying goes that today’s happenings constitute tomorrow’s history. Some of my contemporaries at Great Ife used to summarise History, my course of study, as “Oba ku; Oba je” meaning, one king dies and another reigns in his stead. Or they would say History is the study of the rise and fall of empires. That is not exactly true, though; but these cliches remind us that words and actions perisheth not. There is no “a-se-gbe”or “a-so-gbe” but every word and action lies in wait for us, to bare their fangs at a later date. So watch your word! Weigh it before you utter it. For, once uttered, it cannot be retrieved. “Ohun l’eyin” The words that we speak are like an egg; once it breaks, no Jupiter can collect and put it back in its shell.

Amid intermittent travel advisories by Western diplomatic missions in the country to their citizens on visiting parts of the country because of the nationwide security challenges, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, on Tuesday, August 21, 2024, led a delegation to the $800m Aba Independent Power Project built by the Geometric Power group.

Nigeria is divided across many lines on any issue. What appears to unite Nigeria is the attractive indolence that crude oil revenue has imposed on Nigeria. Some call it the "resource curse" without further inclination to ventilate different ways oil curses Nigeria.
