BACKGROUND:

In my last update relating to Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his ongoing case, I clearly advised his current legal team and their handlers to focus on the task before them, principally the task of securing the release of Mazi Nnamdi, and to refrain from their futile and puerile attempts at blackmailing or discrediting my esteemed mentor, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and my humble self. Unfortunately, this priceless advice ostensibly fell on deaf ears.

Rights and responsibilities are the twin words that best describe the inception and the increasing impact of digital technology, a major strand of which is the dynamic contemporary telecommunication services. Even before the imminent (?) internet of things , IOT, a lot is playing out for human civilizational process throwing up existential challenges for citizens and duly requiring governmental interventions to cope with.

Those who see miracles in soccer apparently cannot grasp the magic moments delivered by Nigerian relay teams across the globe. Omolara Grace Ogunmankinju came out with a bold statement at the Accra 2024 African Games.

Those who say if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria know what they are saying! Not only is the case of corruption killing Nigeria futuristic, it has already happened to us; only that Nigeria is yet to be buried. Corruption, we have always had with us but it has now become endemic. The epidemic nature of corruption, in which everything, anything, and virtually everyone is compromised is why there is consternation and worry.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, attended the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the first time in October last year as head of Nigeria's delegation. The session was held in Luanda, the capital city of Angola. At the event, Akpabio was elected member of the Executive Committee of the influential global organization.

The whole nation has been over the moon since Vice President Kashim Ibrahim commissioned the Geometric Power Group on Monday, February 24, 2024, designed to generate 188 megawatts and supply power to the Aba industrial city and the environs in Abia State as a ring-fenced area. The nation has been agog for three principal reasons, namely, the first time a part of Nigeria will have constant and quality electricity; Aba will serve as a model to be used in other parts of Nigeria, as Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu stated during the commissioning; and the Geometric Power takeoff shows the tenacity of its chief promoter, Professor Bart Nnaji, who has battled all manner of people in government and their minions for a whole 20 years to get to the Aba Independent Power project to this level. I join millions of Nigeria in congratulating Professor Nnaji, whose one-year tenure as the Minister of Power from 2011 to 2012 achieved unprecedented heights in power development in Nigeria.

President of Nigeria's Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON has in faraway Geneva, Switzerland at the ongoing 148th Session of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) took the bull by the horns when in an audacious display of depth and the Nigerian spirit called for action towards an enduring ceasefire and peace in Gaza. Akpabio was unequivocal in declaring that the time to end the carnage in Gaza is now and all hands must be on the deck.

The diplomatic tree Nigeria planted late last year is already yielding fruits. In October, 2023, at the 147th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was elected into the executive committee of the body. Few months after, Nigeria has become a strong voice no longer ignored!

This article is a repeat as it was first published on November 1, 2020.

Palliative–this ten-letter word has taken over our national discourse displacing #EndSARS. Considering how the #EndSARS protests threatened the very fabric of our existence, no one will think anything will supplant it with such ease and in such record time. However, it has turned out to be a welcome development for the authorities. But what is it about palliative that it has taken over our national discourse? What is even palliative? Is it the looted noodles and rice hidden in these dire times as many people think or the tractors and household materials stolen from government offices and people’s houses?

We had exceptionally gifted philosophers in the villages who taught us without being pedantic. Their words flowed with lessons about society's sustenance though they may make light of situations. One of them was De Oguogu. None of us met him when he was young. His wizened brows announced his age. Personable, with a stutter that he never allowed to get on the way, many were concerned about him and trooped to his home to enquire about his health daily.

Discerning minds are definitely amused by the new found occupation of Rivers State Caretaker Committee Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Tony Okocha. It is amusing because each time he speaks or writes, he apparently exposes the height of his crass ignorance. Rivers people, however, know exactly where he draws his energy from in his new found hatchet job.
