The Arewa Youths Advocate for Good Governance (AYAGG) has called for a phased transition in the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), saying such a move is necessary to sustain ongoing reforms and protect national economic interests.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, AYAGG National Coordinator, Comrade Adamu Muhammad Abdullahi, expressed concern over the imminent retirement of several senior Customs management officers within the same period.

He said the mass exit of experienced officers could create leadership gaps capable of affecting revenue collection, customs modernization, digital transformation and border management.

Abdullahi urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Finance, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to carefully assess the implications of a large-scale leadership transition before making final decisions.

According to him, preserving institutional expertise where legally possible and ensuring succession is guided by national interest would help maintain stability within the service.

The group maintained that continuity in leadership remains essential for sustaining reforms and improving operational efficiency in the Nigeria Customs Service. NNL.
