The Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA), Bauchi State Chapter, has empowered widows of deceased police officers with food items, Point of Sale (POS) machines and other support packages as part of activities marking the 2026 International Widows Day.
Speaking during the event in Bauchi, the Chairperson of POWA, Hajiya Fatimah Sani-Omolori, said the association remained committed to improving the welfare of widows whose husbands died in active service to the nation.
She explained that the intervention was aimed at easing the economic burden on the beneficiaries while appreciating the sacrifices made by their late husbands in maintaining peace and security.
According to her, POWA will continue to empower police widows through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes to make them self-reliant.
She commended the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, for his support to the association's activities and welfare initiatives.
Fatimah also appreciated the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Wunti Alheri Foundation and Fidelity Bank Plc for sponsoring the programme.
Items distributed included bags of rice, sugar, cartons of vegetable oil, mats and POS machines.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the LAPOWA Coordinator, Mrs. Lois Maje Bala, expressed appreciation to POWA and its partners, describing the intervention as timely and encouraging.
A lecture on the theme, "From Grief to Growth: Building a Brighter Future for Widows," was delivered by Mrs. Abigail Ardo, followed by an interactive session.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Musa M. Bulus assured that the command would continue collaborating with POWA to ensure that widows of fallen officers receive the support they deserve. NNL.
