The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a State Steering Committee to oversee the implementation of the Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities (SOLID) Project, a World Bank-assisted initiative.
The Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Auwal Jatau, who chairs the committee, performed the inauguration on Wednesday at the Government House, Bauchi.
Speaking at the event, Jatau described the SOLID Project as a transformative intervention aimed at addressing the root causes of displacement, restoring dignity to affected persons, and strengthening resilience among host communities.
He said the project aligns with the state government’s commitment to inclusive development, stressing that displaced persons must be supported to rebuild their lives with dignity.
“The Steering Committee is the engine room of governance for this project. It will ensure that resources, policies, and implementation strategies are aligned with the priorities of the state government,” he said.
The deputy governor urged members of the committee to work collaboratively across sectors and ensure that the gains of the project are sustained beyond its lifecycle through institutional frameworks and budgetary support.
He also assured of the full backing of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration and commended the World Bank and other development partners for supporting the initiative.
Earlier, the State SOLID Project Coordinator, Abdulsamad Abubakar, said the committee would provide high-level oversight and coordination to ensure effective implementation of the project. NNL.
