Muslims in Nigeria and indeed all citizens in the country, have been asked to use the occasion of this year's Eid-el-Fitr celebration which marks the successful end of the 2022 Ramadan Fast, to pray for the unity, peace, political stability and economic prosperity of the Nigerian nation.
This exhortation was made by Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Nigeria's former Senate President and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in his message of goodwill to the Muslims in Nigeria and all over world.
Anyim, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential aspirant in the 2023 general elections, in a statement on Sunday by the Spokesman of his Presidential Campaign Organization, Alhaji Ahmed Buhari, thanked the Almighty Allah for "granting our Muslim brothers and sisters" the grace to fulfill the important religious obligation this year.
He expressed strong belief that the Almighty God will accept the sacrifice of the fast and bless the Muslim Ummah as well as Nigeria. The politician however urged the Islamic faithfuls to continue to make sacrifices in prayers and fasting for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria, even as they enjoy the festivities that come with the celebration.
Senator Anyim said the sacrifice is most necessary now that the country is undergoing challenging times, as ever, in combating the intractable insecurity, existing economic hardship and other threats to the comfort and wellbeing of the citizens and the country. He enjoined Muslim faithfuls and indeed all Nigerians to have faith in the Almighty Allah and face the future with renewed hope and optimism.
"I congratulate our Muslim brothers and sisters on the successful completion of this year's Ramadan Fast. I also thank the Almighty Allah for giving you the grace to successfully round up the fasting which is a sacrifice of self-denial of comfort.
"It is my prayer that Almighty Allah accepts your sacrifices and bestows on you all, the blessings that come with the Holy Month Ramadan.
"As you celebrate the festivities, I also enjoin all Muslim faithful to continue to make sacrifices for the peace and continued progress of out dear country, Nigeria as she grapples with deteriorating economy, insecurity and other threats to her corporate existence.
"Once again, Barka Da Sallah and happy celebrations," Anyim stated. NNL.
