As part of it's effort to achieve the job creation mandate, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) have begun training of Taraba youths on Techno-cultural craft in the state.

The skills acquisition program is in line with the Federal Government target to train at least 1,850 unemployed youths across the 36 states of the country.

In the orientation program on October 5 at the camp lavet hall in Jalingo, the NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, who was represented by Mr. Aliyu Mohammad Umar, said the target of the NDE is to reduce unemployment and train youths on indigenous skills acquisition.

According to him, "I'm here to supervise the kick-off program, and report back to the head office. The primary objective of the Techno-cultural craft is to reduce the numbers of unemployed youths in the streets. This is ranging from both graduates, school drop-outs and those who cannot afford to go to school. NDE wants, at least everyone who is not employed to have a skill, which we believe, can curb insecurity", he said.

Also speaking, the Taraba State NDE Coordinator, Mallam Danladi Shehu, asserts that the NDE is making efforts to create more jobs through skills empowerment to Nigerian youths.

In his words, " the scheme is targeted towards revamping the practical indigenous cultural crafts. It has been observed that in many years past, the indigenous Cultural crafts received less attention from the younger generations. On a serious note, the indigenous cultural Crafts have Potential to provide ample employment to the unemployed persons in the community, especially in the rural and urban areas. It also has high attraction and opportunity for foreign exchange. Therefore, the training is to impart skills based on cultural crafts that are demand-driven to the youths".

Shehu also added that the first phase for the completion of the quick-fix training for the 1,850 persons across the 36 states, has been granted to recruit and train another set of 1,850 unemployed persons nation-wide.

He further state that the training is aimed at imparting skills on unemployed persons to enable them become proficient enough to earn a living and contribute positively towards the economic growth of the society. NNL.
