The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Monday, flagged-off a 5-days training for 50 unemployed graduates on Post-Sustainable Agricultural Development Scheme (Post SADTS) in Sokoto State.
Flagging-off the training, the Director General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said they are geared towards designing and implementing programmes that will combat mass unemployment in Nigeria.
Fikpo who was re-presented by the Sokoto State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Eunice Danmallam, said the Post-SADTS programme will empower beneficiaries to establish, grow and expend Agric-enterprises of their choice on sustainable basis.
Danmallam further added that, ""POST-SADTS is one of the extension of sustainable agricultural development training scheme (SADTS) in which one hundred (100) unemployed youths were trained in poultry production for three (3) months"".
She also maintained that the scheme will help in providing more food, reduce poverty, encourage youths to embrace agriculture as a means of livelihood and remove drudgery from the practice of agriculture.
Earlier, the HOD Rural Empowerment Programme, of the NDE, Malam Yusuf Suraju, admonished participants to concentrate and make judicious use of the knowledge to be acquired.
Reacting on behalf of participants, Rukayya Usman, thanked the NDE for giving them such unique opportunity, just as she assured that they will step down the knowledge for others to benefit.
The training which was held at the College of Agriculture and Extension of Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto State had in attendance, the Director of the College, Dr Musa Dalhatu and Dr Abubakar Abdullahi Ngaski, Dr Murtala Attahiru and Dr Abdullahi Abubakar, as resource persons respectively.
