Legal luminary, Tayo Jegede, SAN, has won the Ondo State governorship ticket of the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) at the party primary.

Jegede was also the gubernatorial flagbearer of the PDP in the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, in which governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated him.

At the keenly contested PDP governorship primary election, Jegede defeated other aspirants with a total of 888 votes.

Jegede defeated his closest competitor, the current Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, who came second with 657 votes.

Ajayi had been engaged in a running battle with the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, which led to his decamping to PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Akeredolu had since been elected the APC candidate for the election.

Both Senior Advocates in the law profession (Akeredolu and Jegede) would slug it out again in the October 10, 2020 governorship election. NNL.
