Since his governorship days, the former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has been well known for his antics of pitching bloodletting in the state to cultivate cheap blackmail and political space. Accordingly, his voice has grown to the highest pitch since he left power in May 2023, recklessly aiming at Governor Hyacinth Alia’s government. With the recent spate of killings in the state, he has stepped up his game time and again! The good thing is that an overwhelming people of Benue State already know that Ortom’s wolf-crying over killings in the state simply signposts, as usual, his use of bloodletting to preserve his political purposes and goals. The coming of Alia has further opened their eyes to the hitherto unseen.

Today, I join the countless voices across our land in mourning the irreplaceable loss of a towering statesman, a remarkable visionary, an unwavering defender of justice, and an uncompromising advocate for truth, Chief Ayo Adebanjo. His life was an embodiment of courage, an unyielding commitment to the Yoruba cause, and later, an expansive vision for a just and equitable Nigeria- a steadfast advocate for the Yoruba people and later a pan Nigeria advocate. His words carried the weight of history, and his actions blazed a trail for those of us who dared to dream of a better society.

Those who insist that 16-year-olds are old enough to qualify for admission into our institutions of higher learning - if they satisfy other criteria - may have won the battle for now, but the controversy over this very sensitive issue is far from being over yet! Not only are the arguments against 16 years unassailable, the law, as it is, is on the side of those rooting for 18 years as the minimum required age for admission into our institutions of higher learning - making exceptions, though, for specially-gifted candidates who are usually far in-between.

Ideal-Africanism(and /or ideal-globalism), as conceptualized and defined by Matthew Ike Obijekwu, PhD, is a philosophico-ethical belief that it's only an ideal Africanist (or an ideal-globalist) who lives above corruption in all its ramifications or dimensions(either national, intercontinental or international stage) can salvage Africa (and the world) from national, intercontinental or international economic, political, cultural, technological and social strangulation, subjugation, dehumanization, discrimination or any form of inhuman treatment or intimidation, and project Africa and the world towards global community of unity, peace and solidarity that respects the humanness of all races. An Ideal-Africanist or ideal-globalist is a person, who does good, avoids evil and be part of Africa and global collective responsibility for peace, unity, solidarity and development.

My people have a saying, to wit, what is rumbling in the bush is coming to the main road; so, wait for it there! And not just wait for it, prepare a net to catch it! Otherwise, if you allow it to come upon you unprepared, you will be done for! Last week, we highlighted on this page three inter-related criminal activities with the same motive of destabilising and unhinging the South-west before the 2027 General Elections.

The woman looked askance as she was told the latest prices of the food items she had come to the market to buy. “Everything too cost”, she moaned. Another woman haggling with the next seller interjected: “No be say dem too cost; na every day dem price too dey go up.” “Every day, ke? Na every minute”, the seller herself volunteered. She explained that she bought some stuff very early that day in the village market before one of her customers called her on the phone to place an order that necessitated her going back to the seller to buy more of the same item. Within a space of under one hour, she said prices had changed. “Na so the thing be nowadays”.

FEBRUARY 6TH, 2013: We won’t need a survey to determine that majority of Nigerians are today cursing the day the All Progressives Congress (APC) was birthed in Nigeria. Well, for your information, it happened exactly today, 12 years ago today.

That is the question. Perhaps we should first take a look at Lake Chad and Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State and current chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

The unending darkness permeating Nigeria today, unarguably, was the mistake of 2013 when majority stakes in the electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) were sold to private investors as part of larger efforts to improve electricity supply, which was hitherto, disrupted by constant power failure across the country.
