OONI, ALAAFIN FEUD IS NEEDLESS CONTROVERSY
By Bola Bolawole
“Chieftaincy titles, the crux of the current face-off between the Ooni and Alaafin, have these days become so debased they are bestowed on all sorts; it profiteth Yorubaland nothing”

STATISTICS on the health of Nigerian children are dreadful, dreary, depressing, and deadening. Death surrounds our children from conception to birth, for those who make it out alive. The Federal Government is disinterested in these issues that compromise the future - if there is any - of Nigeria.

For decades, the Onwa Esaa festival of Obollo land, which is an ancient lunar ritual niched in ancestral veneration, struggled to maintain its sanctity amidst a disturbing wave of violence, masquerade-induced terror, and social disorder. What was once the heartbeat of traditional spirituality in Obollo gradually became a season of fear and chaos, hijacked by the radicalization of Akatakpa masquerade operators who had lost sight of the sacred norms that once guided the cult.

Who will restore Warri back to its glorious days? A city that was once the pride of all Wafarians, is now a shadow of itself, rusty and reeking with aroma of poverty occasioned by systemic decline with people cocooned in deprivation and squalor. Warri is allusively known as Wafi, making the people and residents of the city identified as Wafarians.

European leaders often portray Russian President Vladimir Putin as a tyrant, a land grabber, and a Russian bear. And following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine War three years ago, the deadliest in Europe since World War II, Putin has gone from being a bad guy in Western European eyes to being something worse: a war criminal.

I met Professor Jacob Olupona on the Board of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Ondo State. Then, he often travelled down from Harvard University for the Board meetings and always seemed in a hurry to go back. He is profoundly deep and introspective; it is no surprise that he is a professor and a member of the faculty at one of the world's most prestigious universities. I also noticed that Olupona is folksy. I found that he relished in breaking down complex concepts and reassembling them in a way that would make even a moron grasp his gist. He is like Neil deGrasse Tyson, the African-American astrophysicist who often makes space science seem like a piece of cake.

There’s a storm brewing over Ghana, and it didn’t start yesterday. The tragedy is layered, the signs are familiar, and for those who have lived through history’s brutal cycles of foreign meddling and orchestrated collapse, it’s déjà vu all over again.

YOUR REFORM IS NOT WORKING: This column always knew it and we're not ashamed to say that we said so. IMF last week in Lagos proclaimed it. NIGERIA'S ECONOMIC REFORM IS NOT WORKING, the Fund said at the unveiling of the Report on Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa. The report minced no words as it stated plaintively that after about 18 months, there were no meaningful results to show.

Yes, indeed, the late Muhammadu Buhari was perhaps the best politician of the Fourth Republic. He knew what he was doing when he spoke of Sharia in Sokoto, which caused him problems with the South and Northern Christians. But that solidified his Northern Muslim base and assured him of a solid 12 million votes. His kare jini, biri jini mantra further caused more schisms that made him the ultimate “champion” at home to be projected and defended at all costs.

It was a moment of heartfelt tributes and celebration on Friday, as family, friends, political allies, and well-wishers gathered at the Abuja residence of former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona, to mark his 59th birthday.

The passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari has left a profound void in Northern Nigeria's political landscape and the nation's leadership fabric. As tributes pour in and Nigerians reflect on his legacy, the question of who can truly carry forward his towering political influence emerges.

Good day my good people of Umuatugbu Oma, Akegbe, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu state.
Going by what happened in the court on Tuesday, July 22nd, do we assume that the absence of the judge in court to hear our case without reason for his absence from either his secretary or defence counsel as normal? And in this era of Global System for Mobile communications ( GSM ). From the beginning of this case, one may observe , some level of shenanigans and intimidation from the Enugu state government, their Housing agent and the facilitators, to grab this land (Umuatugbu Oma Ancestral Land) through the use of brute force.
