The tenure of the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Alhaji Muhammad Nami, abruptly ended on Thursday, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the immediate appointment of his Special Adviser on Revenue Matters, Hon. Zacch Adedeji, as replacement.
A statement on Thursday evening, September 14, 2023 by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said the new Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, will head the Revenue Agency in acting capacity for 90 days (three months) pending his subsequent confirmation as substantive Chairman of FIRS for an initial term of four (4) years.
The Presidential statement also stated that Tinubu has directed Mr. Muhammad Nami, the erstwhile Chairman of FIRS to immediately proceed on a three-month pre-retirement leave, as stipulated by order 120243 of the Public Service Rule (PSR), which will lead to his formal retirement from the civil service, on December 8, 2023.
The statement also described the new FIRS boss, Zacch Adedeji, as qualifying for the job. โHon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University.
"He most recently served the nation as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, following meritorious service terms as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary /CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC)". NNL.
