Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and his Oyo state counterpart, Seyi Makinde, have emphasised the supremacy of the rule of law and the power of voters as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a Sallah engagement in Bauchi, Makinde stressed that political loyalty must be based on free will rather than coercion.

He noted that democracy allows citizens and political actors to support candidates of their choice without pressure. “What matters is that the process remains peaceful and lawful,” he said.

Makinde also raised concerns about perceived imbalances in political power but expressed confidence that the will of the people would ultimately prevail.

In his remarks, Bala Mohammed highlighted the importance of institutional processes in resolving political disputes within parties.

“Reconciliation is not off the table, but it must follow due process and established legal frameworks,” he said.

He added that PDP-led states have continued to deliver governance despite operating in opposition, attributing their resilience to collaboration and commitment to democratic ideals.

Both leaders urged Nigerians to prioritise national interest and remain committed to peaceful democratic participation. NNL.
