A four-year-old boy has been murdered by a family acquaintance in Bauchi, shocking the local community.

The victim, Yunusa Salisu, was reported missing on March 18, 2026. His father, Salisu Yunusa, said he received a ransom call the following day demanding ₦500,000 but paid ₦100,000 without seeing his child.

Police investigations led to the arrest of 20-year-old Rabiu Safiyanu, a friend of the family, who allegedly strangled the boy and dumped the body at Warinje Hills after demanding further ransom.

The decomposed body was recovered with visible marks of strangulation, and the Officer in Charge of the Police Clinic confirmed the child dead. To safeguard public health, the body was buried at the site after being released to relatives.

Bauchi State Police Commissioner, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The police have appealed to residents to stay vigilant, stressing that early reporting of suspicious activities could prevent such tragedies in the future. SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, said, “This tragic incident highlights the need for community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.” NNL.
