Special Adviser to the Sokoto State governor on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd) has commended the recent directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the withdrawal of Police security from VIPs,. He however argued that this move will still not mitigate the security situation in the country as the police would need a compliment of adequate equipment, modern technology and specialized training to make a headway on security.

As the Executive Secretary of TETFund adds another year, Nigeria reflects on a legacy of vision, institutional reform, and enduring national impact

By Aaron Mike Odeh

As Sonny Togo Echono adds another year to his years on earth, the moment transcends personal celebration. It stands as a national reflection on purposeful leadership and the quiet but transformative work of a man whose impact continues to shape Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.

Many things happened in Nigeria last week that will trend for a time. Among them were two weighty revelations, one of which led to two ‘juicy’ resignations. There was the revelation by Aisha Buhari, the late President Muhammadu Buhari's wife, that the former president began locking his door to keep her out of his room. Reason? That he heard Villa rumours that she wanted to kill him. An old General fearing the woman who has been married to him for over 30 years!

The prominent person in the N150m demand to import Chinese trumpets is not even a member of Primate Elijah Ayodele's INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church located in Oke-Afa, Lagos. Please note this moot point on the expansive reaches of the religion enterprise.

It’s rare to find a multibillionaire who hasn’t had nasty battles. Yet, as battles go, the fight between Aliko Dangote, the founder of the Dangote Refinery, and the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, is among the most spectacular that Africa’s wealthiest man has had to fight in recent times.

Christmas is here, but there is no “feferity” that usually heralds its coming. New Year itself is around the corner but there are no signs amongst the people. From 2023, only the super rich celebrate here. The middle class has all but been wiped off, such that it is either you are rich or you are poor. I used to be a proud member of the upper middle class, but now I am counted among the poor, barely managing to keep my head about water.

The shameful and rejected diplomatic request to return Nigeria's former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu from Britain to Nigeria to serve out his eight year and six months prison term, is yet another diplomatic desperation and humiliation of the All Progressive Congress (APC) government in its plot to capture Enugu State in the 2027 general elections!

If the name of the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), its secretary, or convention date were the subject of a quiz, there would not be a correct answer because answers don’t exist. The best attempt would be an open-ended response: It depends.

Frontline politician and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State, Chief Longers Anyanwu (the Ebubedike of Obowo) has appraised the six year tenure of the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma (Onwa Oyoko) and scored him creditably, especially in the area of infrastructural developments and innovative projects. Longers who is a former Commissioner for Agriculture in the state between 2007 and 2011 and also a former National Chairman of ACCORD PARTY, however, commended governor Uzodimma for surprising and disappointing his critics who were initially pessimistic that he may not be able to exhibit capacity to turn the fortunes of Imo state around for good. Excerpts:

Q: In very few words, capture your personal impression of the performance of your state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, in the past six years of his administration.

A: My impression from personal assessment of governor Hope Uzodimma's administration

A sanction long overdue: Thank goodness some form of help is coming for hapless Nigerians, ( especially Christians) at long last.

I have a confession. Vice President Kashim Shettima has never been my man. I have never quite taken to him. Not that I hate the man some want to see as the Cicero of our time. But it is also not that I exactly dig the man others prefer to see as overly ambitious. Despite his good performances, especially in delivering speeches and jibes, I have always viewed him with caution. Jibes. Hmmmmn! Perhaps I never saw his jibes, especially those aimed at prominent leaders, as funny—except for the ones about Ahmad Lawan as a tomato seller or Osinbajo as an agwaluma or ice-cream man. I just tended to be icy when it came to him.
