The people are stirring and the leaders are panicky! As hunger keeps the people awake, the fear of what a hungry person can do keeps the well-fed awake! This is typical of a chick that perches on a rope: No peace for the rope and no peace for the chick.

I remember it vividly, the specific time and date; it was in the early hours of the morning on 6th June, 2021, a Sunday, precisely at 1:50am. The previous night, on 5th June, 2021, at 11pm, we exchanged our last greetings before I retired for the day. Little did I know that it would be the last time I would see you on this earth. We had no inkling of the impending danger that would ultimately take your life. It was when the forces of darkness struck and ended your life. In the process, three unarmed and innocent civilians were abducted and remain missing to this day: Lawrence Ugochukwu, Felix Okafor, and Ikenna Chibuike.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma. Otti, turns 59 Sunday, February 18, 2024. This might come to many as a surprise considering that the name, Alex Otti, has been ringing a bell for a long time, more persistently and loudly in the last 10 years, the period within which he threw his hat into the ring of politics to contest for the governorship of Abia State.

There is no denying the fact that Prof. Farooq Kperogi is as engaging as he is informed about Nigeria that he discusses with passion and flair. He writes with conviction and leaves no one in doubt he wants the best for his country, Nigeria. Many Nigerians have shed the toga of patriotism that Kperogi still wears like a badge. Nigeria, to many, is a lost cause already.

Herbert Wigwe everyone knew, but not many knew the backbone behind his immense success.

I called you Chiz Baby. Queenette Allagoa called you Chiz Burger. Most called you Doreen. I remember when you came back from the United States of America 31 years ago. You were just 26 years old, armed with your university degrees and ready to start life afresh back home. We immediately bonded over our unique family dynamics and love of trading. I remember marvelling at your capacity to switch back and forth from an American accent to a Nigerian English accent with ease. I was immediately drawn to your infectious laughter which could be heard from a mile away and your tremendous industry. You were born into privilege, but you were never afraid of hard work.

FROM CORPORATE MAGNATES TO CORRUPTION MAGNATES: We used to have corporate magnates and industry moguls. Men and women who were leaders and pace setters in various sectors of the economy. People who by sheer industry, zeal and brainpower led their corporations to acclaim and resounding success. We also had political leaders and godfathers. Men of stature who were shining examples of what good leadership ought to be.

I was going through some old files in my closet the other day when I saw some documents and receipts that absolutely cracked me up. Among the browning, time-worn papers was the receipt from a private primary school for the payment of my first daughter’s fees.

“There is little that can withstand a man who can conquer himself. Every time I appoint someone to a vacant position, I make a hundred unhappy and one ungrateful. I am the state” – France’s King Louis XIV.

As governor of Imo State, Dee Sam Mbakwe wept for his people to be treated with all decency due citizens of a nation. In death, the tears continued to roll until the gods of the land visited Government House Owerri to say hello to incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma.
