One of the most important highlights of the opportunity Governor Hope Uzodimma, CON gave me to serve in his cabinet was the honour of meeting and working with Professor Placid Njoku. The former Deputy Governor of Imo State turns seventy-seven years old this month of February, 2024.

A number of events last week, appear to have unearthed a new dimension to the escalating insecurity in the country. They have to do with the challenge of truck loads of people who claim to be hunters but whose manner of entry into some communities in south has continued to raise serious apprehension.

Herbert why? Why? Why? You told me you were going for a board meeting in London from where you will head out to the US and return after a few days and immediately come to Abia to see me. So, what happened?

As the troubled Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) convenes its Ministerial Council meeting in Abuja on February 8 to discuss the quit notice served by three of its members – Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger – the situation in Senegal might well be the elephant in the room.

Why do men think big successful girls are single because all they want is money and independence instead of marriage and commitment? Why do they think being financially independent mean you want to live alone and die lonely? Well, the women also suspect that there is a hidden agenda somewhere. Yeah, can the men swear that they are not the ones annulling our rights and mandates while promising to ‘Insha’ Allah ‘empower’ us. You can’t win against their armoury. It is so difficult to please or understand the way their minds work. But haven’t I warned that there is no point trying to decipher a man’s mind?

Perhaps even more than the ailing economy, a worsening security situation has given Nigeria the most concern over the past few years. Despite several measures and huge resources deployed against it, the tide of the menace of violent crimes has not turned in many parts of the country.

President Bola Tinubu needs help at this time to save him from politicians who are running him out of relevance with obnoxious policies. In all this, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, appears to be the lone true friend around.

Enugu State has maintained considerable level of political stability since the fourth republic. After then Gov. Chimaroke Nnamani vs Chief Jim Nwobodo skirmish that tored the State House of Assembly apart (2000 — 2003) and other unpalatable happenstances that characterized Nnamani's second term (2003 — 2007), Barr. Sullivan Chime succeeded him, holding out olive branch of pacification. From thence, subsequent administrations have maintained a stable polity both in the judicial, legislative and executive arms of government. This millpond calmness subsisted presumably because the State was a running on one-party system. Peter Obi's Labour Party (LP) thwarted this equation, as a result of which current Governor Peter Mbah was not all that "lucky" like his predecessors to inherit a unipolar State legislature.
