The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations involving alleged illegal firearm fabrication and possession as well as the alleged rape of a mentally ill woman.
Three of the suspects were arrested in Misau Local Government Area over an alleged locally fabricated firearm, while another suspect was arrested in Gamawa over an alleged sexual offence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
In Misau, police operatives attached to the divisional headquarters reportedly intercepted Abubakar Ahmad, 30, at Chief Magistrate Court 1 with a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge.
The police said investigation led to the arrest of Tijjani Yakubu, 35, who allegedly admitted ownership of the firearm and identified Bappah Kawu, 48, as the person who fabricated and sold it to him for N30,000.
A search of Kawu's workshop allegedly resulted in the recovery of two Dane guns and several tools believed to have been used for firearm fabrication.
In a separate case in Gamawa, police arrested Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, 26, over the alleged rape of a 50-year-old mentally ill woman.
The Command said the victim and suspect were taken to General Hospital Gamawa for medical examination, while investigation into the case continues.
The police said the suspects in the firearms case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command's zero tolerance for illegal arms and sexual offences, urging members of the public to provide credible information to law enforcement agencies. NNL.
